on love, in sadness

(Thanks Jason Mraz for the blog title.)

Why is it that in every amazing love story someone has to die? People always leave, people always die, and it just gets so depressing. What makes me so angry these days is that people think depressing novels or poems or TV shows are so much more complex and introspective, when in reality they're just sad. Who came up with the notion that adding an ounce of horrible misery to a work of entertainment or art produces something better? What's so wrong with happiness?

(This quote is kind of off-topic...kind of.)
"You know that romantic notion that all the garbage and the pain is really healing and beautiful and sort of poetic? It's not. It's just garbage and it's pain. You know what's better? Love. The day that you start thinking that love is overrated is the day that you're wrong. The only thing wrong with love and faith and belief is not having it." Haley James (One Tree Hill)
