aberrant wednesday.

  1. I read a poem today in Women's Writing, and I honestly couldn't tell you who wrote it or what it was called. It was about an old lady not being able to remember who she kissed or who she slept with in her past. All she knew was that she once loved, but now she loves no more. Underneath it I wrote in caps: FOREVER ALONE.
  2. I ate way too much candy. My teacher might be attempting to fatten us up. Like the wicked, old lady from Hansel and Gretel. (How much would you judge me if I named my daughter Gretel?)
  3. I talked to friends today! And made some new friends. It's always nice when I'm in an unusual social mood at school.
  4. I had my first advising appointment, and basically I'm going to be in school forever just to be in school forever. Margaret (my adviser) was quite reassuring, though, when she told me that teaching is far different than being a student. Woooohoo.
  5. Kate and I had an interesting conversation about sperm banks. It started off with a silly joke, and then I continued in saying that the whole idea of sperm banks gives me the heeby jeebies. Here are the three words Leanne, Kate and I have decided define a sperm bank: generous, helpful and awkward. My question is...how does one decide which sperm to choose??? Kate said there are folders you look through, so with that knowledge, we created some fictional conversations:
Woman/Man: What about him? He has a receding hairline, but he went to Harvard!
W/M: I'm not sure. I like this one over here. He was a janitor, but he has long, flowy ginger locks.
Anyway, the whole situation just seems really odd to us. We also imagined a woman randomly choosing a sperm, and then she'd end up with a mystery baby! Then we made up a little jingle (sung to this song): Oh, I wonder wonder what's in my uterus!
  6. I got most of my nails hacked off by the ladies at the salon next to Kate's work because they thought I wanted fake nails. Oh well. They still look cuuute.
  7. After years and years of listening to the score, I finally ended up watching The Mission. Such a sad movie. But Ennio Morricone is possibly one of my favorite movie composers. His music takes my breath away.
