It's insane that sometimes I forget about certain songs. When this happens, I think my iTunes becomes sad and wishes to remind me of the amazingness of said songs. (By the way, I've totally decided that I use the word "amazing" WAY too much. Oh well. It's an amazing word. Oh so punny.) Both songs that I am writing about are by the band Dntel, which basically consists of Jimmy Tamborello. He just happens to be the other half of the brilliant partnership that created The Postal Service. What most people don't know (or people that just don't care) is that the partnership between Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello began when Gibbard provided the vocals and, I think, the lyrics as well...let me look that up...yes, the vocals and the lyrics of a song called (This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan. A truly gorgeous song; seriously
listen to it now. Also, I'm a huge fan of this video. This song reminds me of the ex, which is annoying, but there's something about it that never fails to make me smile. What I love about Gibbard's lyrics is that they're so simple. I mean...
"Your eyelashes tickle my neck/with every nervous blink/And it was perfect/Until the telephone started ringing off."
This is just ridiculously corny, but doesn't that make you feel something? It does for me.
The second song, as I said, is also by Dntel. However, the version I love the most is actually a remix. It's not entirely different, but...well. Here's the
normal version. Of course, it's beautiful this way, but the Roger O'Donnel Remix is somehow 1,000 times better. Well, this is so sad. I can't find the song anywhere online. So, just trust me, okay? Go buy it on iTunes. This song changed my life--I can't even tell you why or how. It just did. Goodness, it's so good. I love the phrase she sings. Instead of "I wonder if you are aware how much you've changed my life" or "how much of an impact you've made on me" or "how much I incredibly love you" it's....
"I wonder if you were aware how much you rock my boat."
Ughhh. I die.
PS: Okay, just listen to anything Dntel. It's all lovely.
