Anyway! One of my weaknesses is a fabulous cover song. They're done all the time, but there are quite a few that stand out. Several months ago I put together a playlist of all my favorites. I called it "Beneath the Covers" because I was feeling creative and cheesy that day. Here it is, folks!
- Discovery -- I Want You Back
- Save Ferris -- Come On Eileen
- Cat Power/Myra Lee -- Sea of Love
- Allred -- The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
- Pete du Pon -- Basket Case
- The Get Up Kids -- Close to Me
- The Vitamin String Quartet -- Screaming Infidelities
- Obadiah Parker -- Hey Ya
- Death Cab for Cutie -- This Charming Man
- MoZella -- Say It Isn't So
- Tyrone Wells -- Use Somebody
- Yael Naim -- Toxic
- Natalie Walker -- Colorblind
- The Postal Service -- Against All Odds
- Ryan Adams -- Wonderwall
- Jeff Buckley -- Hallelujah
There you have it. One of the best mixes I've ever made. I have to say my favorite cover on here is without a doubt "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight." This version is watered down to just a guitar and some of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard. Perfection. Obadiah's version of Hey Ya by Outkast is absolutely hilarious. He makes that song sound almost like a love song; impressive. And really? Jeff Buckley is a genius. There's not much to say about that cover. It leaves me speechless, and often crying. (I'm a baby.)
If you'd like to know who sang the originals, let me know!
