I believe it was around February 2010. Leanne and I went to see Dear John, because we're both suckers for Nicholas Sparks' stories. (Though I'd like to make it clear that I usually enjoy the movie over the book.) Another reason I had wanted to see it is because the song playing during the trailer was "Set the Fire to the Third Bar" by Snow Patrol. I kind of have this rule that if a trailer plays one of my favorite songs, the movie will be amazing and I must see it. (Oh, especially Sigur Ros. They're a popular band for trailers.) I told Lee before the movie that I just knew that they were going to play a stunning song that I was going to fall in love with. On queue during the lurrrrve scene, "The Moon" plays in the background. Naturally, I died. Listen to it here.
The minute I got home I signed onto my iTunes account to buy the song so I could listen to it on repeat for four to five days. When I found out the name of the band, The Swell Season, something clicked in my mind. I knew I had heard that name before. Soon, I came to realize that they were in the movie Once, or well, they were the movie Once and that they also sang "Falling Slowly." (Mmm, that song is lovely. Fall in love with it now.) So, I was just perusing all of their music and all of a sudden my iTunes told me that I just bought one of their CDs. Uhhh, excuse me? When did that happen? And no, I didn't just buy a two-song EP. No. I bought the deluxe version of Strict Joy, which includes many of their songs live. It also happens to be, like, $15.99. I was a little annoyed for a few days. It's not that I didn't want their CD...it was just unexpectedly thrown upon me. Luckily, one of my favorite things in the music world is a man and woman duet. Sighhh. Really? Is there anything better?
If any of you have great boy and girl duet-y songs/bands, please tell me about them! I'm always looking for musica nueva.

So as your brand new hometeacher I feel it my duty to suggest a few of my favorite boy/girl duets. Now I'll save them til we talk in person, but as a teaser, go to youtube and type "The national st. vincent sleep all summer"
The best duet by anyone, ever.
Is it the Crooked Fingers cover? Because that's the only one I could find...
Um, and just saying, we have conferences the next two weeks. I'm not sure I want to wait that long for good music. Haha.
It is the Crooked Fingers cover (the original is good, but this version is just on another level.) Alright, well I know you're a Bon Iver fan, so look up "Daphne" by Lia Ices (featuring Justin Vernon)
Firstly, Sleep All Summer is incredible.
Secondly...I think I'm kind of speechless about this song. I don't want to sound cheesy. But I'll probably have this song on repeat for a few days.
Haha. We'll save any more for when we see each other in a few Sundays' time.
